JAMESVILLE QUARRY TOUR
FRIDAY AUGUST 6, 2010
The Central NY Division of the National Model Railroad Association has set up a bus and walking tour of Jamesville Quarry for Friday August 6, 2010. Our tour of the quarry will be in a bus with some walking and will include a great tutorial by the quarry General Manager about quarry operations and how they setup to blast a section of wall. The price for this trip is the same as last year, $15 per person! We are working on some additions to this year’s tour so even if you went last year there will be some different things to see if the details can be worked out for the group. In past years we have been able to see a section of quarry wall get blasted and hope to be able to do it during this trip as well, weather and quarry operations permitting. You are responsible for getting to the upper parking lot of the quarry at the end of Solvay Road in Jamesville, NY. We will get on the bus at 8:45 AM and leave the parking lot as soon as the bus is loaded. The tour is planned to run until approximately 12 noon. We will be in a working stone quarry so dress appropriate for the location, conditions and weather. NO OPEN TOE SHOES. This tour is not wheel chair accessible and requires some walking on rough ground.
When you arrive in the upper parking lot please park by the equipment display at the back. Feel free to wander around the steam locomotive and excavator while waiting to board the bus. There are some picnic tables there so you could bring a cup of coffee to enjoy while you wait. Cameras and video are welcomed and encouraged.
From RT 481 travel south on Jamesville Rd/North St turning LEFT onto Solvay Road Extension into the quarry. Continue on Solvay Rd Ext. under the RR bridge making a sharp LEFT turn at the top of the hill onto Solvay Road. Follow Solvay Road into the upper parking lot.
From RT 173 turn onto Solvay Road and follow it to the upper parking lot.
